RIGHTWEIGHT Challenge 13
Challenge purpose: Topology optimisation on shell elements to strategically cut out material from metal sheets
Main section of application:
- Automotive
Main cross-cutting topics:
- Design & smart functions
- Manufacturing & assembly
- Characterization & modelling
- Material supply & development
Scope of the challenge
- Formed metal sheets are very frequently used within agricultural vehicles. Within simulation (FEA) packages, they are often represented as shell elements.
Challenge objectives
- CNHi would like to have a topology-based shell element optimization. This optimization method should identify regions that can safely be removed/cut out from metal sheets in order to save additional weight.
Can you provide a solution to this challenge?
